Dental Implants

Dental implants consist of artificial titanium “roots” that are surgically implanted into the upper or lower jaw. These implants support natural-looking artificial teeth, which can significantly enhance or restore a person’s smile.

Here are some reasons why dental implants are sought after:

  • They can replace one or more missing teeth without impacting adjacent teeth.

  • They can alleviate joint pain or bite issues caused by teeth shifting into the space left by a missing tooth.

  • They can restore a confident smile, chewing function, speech, and aid in digestion.

  • They can restore or enhance facial tissues.

  • They can provide support for a bridge or denture, making it more secure and comfortable.

The process of receiving dental implants involves several visits, often spanning several months. It begins with impressions of the jaw and teeth to assess the bone, gum tissue, and available space for the implant. Under local anesthesia, the implant is surgically placed into the bone, allowing it to heal and integrate for up to six months. Depending on the type of implant, a second surgery may be necessary to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place. In some cases, the post and anchor are already attached and placed simultaneously. Bone grafting may also be required in certain situations.

After a few weeks of healing, artificial teeth are custom-made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor by Dr Nathan. Following a healing period, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing stability and comfort.

Upon completion of the treatment, patients receive care instructions. Practicing good oral hygiene and maintaining healthy eating habits, in addition to regular dental visits, will contribute to the longevity of the new implant.
